Bighorn Sheep Tracking Collar - "Raising awareness for Mycoplasma Ovipneumoniae (M.Ovi)"

Help support SCIENCE BASED WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT in British Columbia. This unique item is the third Bighorn Sheep tracking collar to ever be auctioned off in British Columbia. Own the MOST UNIQUE collectibles to have in any trophy room.

Collar number is: "35547". The collared Bighorn was a yearling Ewe initially captured on 12-March-2019 as part of a Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (M.ovi) surveillance and Test & Remove project in the McKay Creek area on the west benches of the Fraser River in Region 3. She was a healthy sheep at the time, and free of M.ovi. She survived until 23-July-2021 at which time she was predated by a cougar within the fire perimeter of the ongoing McKay Creek wildfire through the Summer of 2021. Sampling at time of death indicated she continued to be free of M.ovi at that time.

Studying bighorn sheep by monitoring radio-collared individuals with GPS collars that upload locations to satellites. The satellite transmitter sends data about an individual’s location to a web site or via email. Lambs are especially susceptible to pneumonia so we intensively monitor ewes and lambs from birth to weaning. Data from these collars are the basis of solid research around this disease. The information about survival, location, reproduction, and habitat is to improve the understanding of pneumonia transmission dynamics across the landscape of British Columbia.

Every dollar raised from this auction item will go directly to Mycoplasma Ovipneumoniae research in British Columbia, and to help eradicate it from the landscape.
